Assistant Principal's Welcome Letter
Cynthia Dafnis , Assistant Principal
To our returning students and families WELCOME BACK to school!!! To our new students and
families, WELCOME TO THE G.A.I. FAMILY! I couldn’t be prouder of our little school.
This past 2019-2020 school year was a tough one, to say the least. We experienced unprecedented times during the COVID pandemic, as our school routine was suddenly disrupted. In three days, we had switched to virtual learning. We thought it would be overwhelming and difficult. Instead we persevered, as teachers demonstrated dedication and
students exceeded the challenge. We were compared to other schools and received nothing but positive feedback.
However, that is all behind us and we are ready to begin the new 2020-2021 school year, even
though it comes with many changes. We don’t know what may lie ahead, however we are
ready to conquer anything. We have an amazing staff and outstanding students. Together we
will remain positive and stay safe. Together we will strive for the best.
Speaking of new beginnings, we welcome our new teachers, Ms. Fabiana, PKA Lead
Teacher, Ms. Papastefanou, 6th/7th grade English Teacher, Mr. Thanos, in addition to music
will now be teaching GSL, and Ms. Alessia Palanza PKA teacher assistant.
Congratulations to Ms. Joanne Kyriacou for becoming part of administration as Dean of Students.
As always we are grateful for our returning teachers.
As Director of PKA/3K I cannot go without mentioning our NYCEEC program. Last year we
launched a new 3K program. NYC DOE provided support through frequent visitations but soon realized we had one of the best programs in the area, They took a step back, and allowed us to run with the program. They were soon discussing inter-visitations to support other programs. That speaks volumes.
We collaborate with an amazing PTO and school board. It is all volunteer work, yet they support us 24/7. This as already mentioned, is due to the fact that we are one big family.
Most importantly we want to collaborate with you, the families of our students. We are all
stakeholders playing significant roles on this team, the G.A.I. team. Through collaboration,
our students and school will navigate through this ever changing world, especially now through this difficult time. We will all get through this together!
Your children are in excellent hands. One of my favorite quotes is by Nobel Prize Laureate
Malala Yousafzai. “Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, ad one teacher can change
the world.” Our teachers have the passion to change the world, one student at a time.
Thank you for entrusting your children with us. I wish everyone a fantastic school year.
Above all, I wish everyone a safe and healthy one!
